Seagraves
This portrait of Kelly Seagraves has been overtaken by the images that define my relationship to her. Kelly is portrayed as a mythic goddess of the internet defined by a framework of found images that relate to mysticism and witchcraft, surf culture, and Pokemon. Great White Sharks, Titanium Crystals, Mewtwo hands, and Wavves cats (from her own artwork) describe a portrait as a collection of references that create a ghostly stand-in for actual experience. Conversely, the painted object is treated as a multidimensional, elevated extension of the digital image that commands time and space to make and see.
