Voice in the Mirror
I have combined broken skateboards and things that inspired the painting in the piece, which is an Ab. Ex. self-portrait, to relate the idea of unmonumental sculpture to the painted masterpiece. I am questioning the possibility of the unmonumental if it is created within an environment of excess. I have mashed up styles from a wide range of post-war Art to create a highly repetitive and self-appropriated self-portrait. The mirrors are placed within the pattern of self-portraits to hint that the viewer recreates the image by making their own reflection a part of the work; It's a portrait of the artist.
